Qualities Personal Trainers Look for in Their Clients

In today's fast paced, fast-food world, health and fitness is more important than ever. It can be difficult to find the time and energy to incorporate fitness into your daily regime, but the benefits of doing so are insurmountable. Personal trainers are educated in helping all kinds of people meet their fitness needs, as well as planning a program that works for each individual client. For personal trainers, choosing clients takes similar criteria to that of a client choosing the right personal trainer.

Choosing clients often depend on what the individual personal trainer's priorities are. Although the main goal is generally to help their charges facilitate physical activity into their lifestyles and obtain optimal results, other business factors come into play. Some trainers are looking for clientele volume, so they may market to the masses and offer a wide variety of services. Others specialize in certain body and personality types, such as new mothers or those who are obese. For most physical trainers, commitment and perseverance are important qualities in a client, and can make the difference between a successful training relationship, and a short lived one.

Personal trainers work for their clients, so it is important that they choose people who truly want to make lifestyle changes. Committing to an exercise regime is not easy, but clients who are willing to put forth a true effort and stick to it are important. Personality can be another key factor in choosing clients. Although not everyone is going to mesh, clients and trainers must first and foremost get along. It is difficult to encourage and motivate a client you cannot get through to. Clients that are open to constructive criticism, new ideas, and fair suggestions are optimal.

Some Benefits of Hiring a Personal Trainer

These days many people are looking to lose weight, tone up or build strength. These are great goals, but you might have a hard time getting there. Many people don’t have very much knowledge about anatomy, how the body works, or what exercises to do for their specific goals. Having someone who is trained to guide you through exercises can really maximize your success. This is the job of a personal trainer, and there are many benefits to hiring one to help you attain success.

One of the first things a personal trainer will do is look at your medical history and perform a fitness assessment. These will be essential to finding out what potential risks you have when you exercise. An evaluation of where you are now will also help you know where to start so you can build up from there. A personal trainer will take this information along with your personal goals and customize a workout plan for you that fits with all these factors. They will monitor your progress and adapt your routine as you get more fit. When you are doing an exercise, many people are unsure of proper form and how much resistance or weight to use. Having a personal trainer show you the exercise and monitor your form means that you will work more efficiently and with less risk of injury.

Aside from all of these other tangible benefits, one of the most important ones has to do with motivation. Having an appointment with your trainer keeps you accountable to working out. Many people have a hard time exercising consistently, so having a scheduled time keeps their workouts on track. A personal trainer can also encourage you and cheer you on.

Things to Consider before you Hire a Personal Trainer

A personal trainer should be able to provide you with references. You should check with the references, and ask whether or not they attained their fitness goals and how the trainer worked with them.

Next, you should check for their certification. Many colleges offer degrees for personal trainers. This should include oral and written exams. Ask them if they had practical exams, too. Another practical certification would be in CPR or First Aid training. Also, they should be in a continuing educational program.

The personal trainer should be able to explain to you how they will help you meet your goals. Can they motivate you? How do they assess your progress? These are some important questions you need answered.

You should ask about the fees and the time you will have with the trainer. If it is in your home, then the fee will be higher. Get the specifics of how to pay and see if you can cancel if you aren't happy. This is best to have in writing.

You need to ask how long have they been a personal trainer? Their appearance should be taken into consideration. They don't have to have a flawless body, but they do have to be able to train you and teach you a new lifestyle. The personal trainer will train you in strength training, cardiovascular and basic nutrition. You want to feel comfortable with them. You want them to add versatility in your training program, so that you will want to have a personal trainer helping you meet your goals.

Personal Trainers Help You Reach your Goals!

Hiring a personal trainer is your first step towards a healthier lifestyle. There are a variety of reasons why people hire a personal trainer. Probably the most common one is that they do not think they will do the exercise on their own. They need a little push. A trainer will design a custom workout plan just for you. It will tailor to your needs and goals. There will be some give and take. The trainer cannot do it all for you. You will have to discipline yourself.

Once upon a time, a personal trainer was reserved for only the rich and famous. That is not the case anymore. Now they are as common as an old pair of tennis shoes. A fitness trainer doesn't need to be tested or licensed by the state he or she works in. So basically, someone with not much more than a good body can become a personal trainer. Make sure that you get references before hiring anyone. Check out what their thoughts are on exercise and training. Always see what they are going to charge and when they expect to be paid. These are all legitimate questions to ask.

There may be exercises that you do not like, and that is fine. Say you don't like to run, for instance. That is fine because there are many other cardio exercises that will give you the same results. The trainer will need to know what you expect to achieve with your exercise program. That way, they can put you on the right track to accomplishing your goals.

Isometrics for Stretching

Stretching is very important and should be done daily. If possible, do it periodically throughout the day, because our muscles have a tendency to tighten with stress and work. There are numerous methods and techniques of stretching; each one has its merits for what it is meant to accomplish. One type of stretching is isometric stretching. This kind of stretching is where there is some form of resistance to a muscle or group of muscles.

Isometric stretching has been found to be more beneficial than only doing passive stretching (where a partner helps you with the stretch) or active stretching (where you hold the stretch yourself). Not only does isometric stretching help you to develop static/passive flexibility, but it helps develop strength in the tensed muscles. Doing isometric stretches also has a tendency to lessen the degree of pain that oftentimes comes with stretching.

However, isometric stretches are not appropriate for all situations. For instance, it is not recommended doing isometric stretches before participating in some kinds of sports that require strength, because isometric stretching has been found to slightly lessen the workload of the muscles for a period of time after doing them. Also, it is not recommended for children or young adults whose bones have not finished growing yet. People in this age bracket are generally quite flexible and could actually do damage to their connective tissues and tendons. There are many benefits to doing isometric stretches, but they must be done properly and for the right reasons. Do some research and learn proper techniques before attempting this.
