Exercise is important, but so is stretching before working out. This should be done before you work out. If you do not have a personal trainer, know that the importance of stretching muscles is to warm them up. Stretching will also help avoid any injuries during your workout.

When you stretch, the muscles are getting ready for the workout. The blood is starting to flow and everything in your body is getting ready to move. Stretching is like exercise to the muscles, but they need to be done correctly. Hold your position at the point you feel tension for a several seconds to reap all the benefits. Don't bounce, or you could hurt yourself. If you do this on a regular basis, you should become more flexible, which is something that can be lost as people age. You can also stretch at anytime during the day. It will help you feel limber and more alert. It also is a great way to reduce stress.

When lifting weights, your muscles shorten, and stretching lengthens them, allowing them to look toned and lean. Make sure you stretch after your workout as well. This is a great time because muscles are warm, and doing it then can help with soreness the next day. This will help you to keep on exercising and feeling great.
