What should you look for in a personal trainer? The trainer must have diverse knowledge in whatever types of exercises they are helping you with. You want someone fit and in great shape, who takes care of themselves and takes pride in their achievements. A great personal trainer is not easy to find. Check the person trainer's qualifications and their certifications to decide which one is right for you.
Qualifications can include but are not limited to, certificates and degrees pertaining to CPR, nutrition and exercise medicine. There are also personal degrees or certifications in fields such as martial arts, weightlifting, yoga or other gym related activities. It is not easy to find the right trainer and it could be even harder deciding which one has the right qualifications to suit your needs. A martial artist requires years of training and certifications to be able to train someone, whereas a personal trainer or coach from a gym might only require a certificate in first aid.
The type of personal trainer one does not want to help them is one without any type of training who just does things on the fly. Be smart, ask for their qualifications and any references you may think are helpful in helping you decide. Not just anyone will do. It's up to you to decide if they are qualified or you could pay a high price for an ineffective workout. The right trainer should push you but still respond to your needs and be willing to work with you in adapting the program to fit your style.
