Typically, clients evaluate and scrutinize to find the perfect personal trainers. But, keep in mind that the personal trainer has a few standards when considering clients. Trainers work very closely with clients and want to ensure that the relationship will work and endure for a long period of time. Here are just a few things that personal trainers look for in clients.
First, good trainers want to ensure you are a making a positive investment. This means you will take your training sessions very seriously. Rescheduling, postponing, or avoiding workouts are all deterrents to trainers. You are paying them well, but make sure you are paying them for what you purchased. So, as painful as it may be, follow the workout, show up on time, and try not to reschedule unless absolutely necessary.
Second, your personal trainer is not trying to be your best friend. He or she is a trained professional providing a service. That does not mean they won't be friendly and listen compassionately to your personal issues. It only implies that they are there first to help you as a professionally trained expert. If a budding friendship starts to impede that professional relationship, you and the trainer may want to reconsider further sessions as trainer and client.
Finally, and most importantly, personal trainers want to be treated like people. Yes, they receive a considerable sum for their services, but that does not afford verbal abuse from the clients. Treat them as you would any professional. Hopefully you wouldn't walk into the bank and give the bank teller a tongue lashing just because you were having a bad day. Extend the same courtesy to the trainer. That is all they expect and deserve.
