Stretching is a key component in compiling an exercise program in today's world that is sometimes left out of traditional exercise programs. Stretching is important to develop neuro-muscular efficiency, or the interrelation of the nervous system our control tower. Our skeletal system is frame and lever system, and our muscular system are the movers and stabilizers of the body that are controlled by the nervous system to move our skeletal system.
People in today’s society are living a more sedentary lifestyle that consists of sitting in offices for a period longer than 3 hours, and that is causing more muscle and skeletal injuries than ever. This increases the occurrences of muscle imbalances, overuse injuries, and joint dysfunctions in today’s average person.
Stretching helps decrease these factors and helps fix neuro-muscular deficiencies and helps rehabilitate muscle skeletal injures which are caused by overactive muscles and under active muscles. In a world where technology has changed everyday lives, stretching is needed more than ever to fix neuro-muscular deficiencies that are caused by many of the same actions and/or long periods of sitting.
About 80% of today's adults suffer from lower back injuries caused by long periods of sitting, the absence, or lack of stretching, exercise, and proper nutrition. Stretching is a key component in keeping proper joint motion.
In conclusion, the importance of stretching and flexibility is the base for everyday lives, that without proper usage can lead to a dysfunctional body.
