How to Choose the Personal Trainer for You

Once you decide, that your personal fitness goals cannot be reached by yourself, it may be time to hire a personal trainer. A good personal trainer will sit down with you, to find out your goals, and will design a plan around you. Avoid someone who puts you, into a cookie cutter type fitness program.

Look for a trainer you can trust, and that will meet your needs. Go to a local gym, and watch how trainers interact with their clients. Their total focus should be on the client. Ask around; talk to current and former clients, to see how they felt about the training received. Check out the certification of the trainer. They should at least have a NCCA certification, as well as being trained in CPR. The best trainers will have, professional liability insurance.

Once you have decided on your trainer, you will want to sit down to assess where you are. Be prepared to get on the scales, and have your body fat tested. If you have specific goals in mind, like bodybuilding or long distance running, be sure to choose a trainer that has experience in that area.

Most of all, remember that you are not looking for a new best friend. Keep the relationship friendly, but professional. The conversation should stay at the surface level, avoid sharing personal details. When things become too personal, the focus can be lost and emotion takes over. This is never good for either the client or the trainer.
