What Personal Trainers Expect from Their Clients

The personal trainer will expect to learn from you what your motivations are, whether it it is revenge motivation, judgment motivation or away from motivation. The personal trainer will want these goals in place before you start, so that you have something to work towards. They realize the first three motivations may get you started, but in the long run they expect your goals to be realistic and to center on you being healthy and happy with your new lifestyle.

One thing personal trainers expect is that you give them some feedback. In order for the trainer to be aware of the exercises you like or dislike, you must discuss the exercise plan that you will follow. Ask the trainer if the exercises are challenging enough for you. You can always change your routine if the trainer gets enough feedback from you.

Another thing that your trainer expects is for you to fill out a background sheet on any of your health issues, as this is used as a health appraisal tool. You must be completely honest. The importance of this is that it helps them to design an exercise plan around any health problems you may have. They will also need to know your lifestyle inventories such as diet and physical activity and then incorporate this into your exercise plan.

Finally, your trainer expects that you two have some kind of rapport. There must be some respect for each other and the expectation that you can work together for an extended period of time.
