When you are getting ready to work out, stretching is very important before and after exercise. If you work out without stretching you may cause your body to become very stiff and sore.
Before you work out, take at least thirty minutes to get in a good stretch. A good stretch consists of stretching all of your muscles. Touching your toes, moving your arms around in small circles and taking a quick walk is great stretching. Stretching will help increase blood flow and help your work out performance. Increasing your blood flow is important during exercise to prevent any heart complications.
If you do not stretch before you work out, depending on how vigorous your work out is, you are risking giving yourself sprained or pulled muscles. Before you exercise, stretching helps loosen your muscles and gets them ready to be used. Stretching also helps prevent fatigued and sore muscles.
Many athletes believe that stretching before a workout improves performance. Some athletes also believe that if you do not stretch you have a high chance of becoming injured.
After you finish a good work out, it is also important to stretch again. When you are working out, your muscles contract and become tight, and stretching afterwards with help your muscles get back their elasticity.
When you are stretching, take your time. Stretching should be stress free and relaxing. You should also stretch before and after you exercise. If you are not focused and relaxed when you are stretching, you probably will not get your muscles to relax.
