What are Isometrics?

Isometrics are muscular contractions without movement of the involved parts of the body. It is a form of exercise which involves types of muscle contractions to increase muscle tone. It helps stimulate the development of lean muscle tissues. It helps build a firm physique in a short period of time. It also helps build strength, power and rehabilitation. Isometrics can be performed anywhere, anytime as it does not require any equipment. Isometric workouts are much faster, it takes less time and energy to perform a workout. They are simple exercises that improve both mobility and flexibility.

The two classes of isometrics are namely overcoming isometric exercise and yielding isometric exercises. Isometric exercises relax the muscles which allow them to stretch out to a normal position and this helps eliminate the waste. These exercises can be completed from a static position. Performing isometric exercise increases muscle tension significantly. Also it produces more force than a contraction generated by lifting weights. It is a scientifically validated method of increasing the strength and muscle size. Isometrics is practiced by professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts as a form of strength training. It is suited to all exercise groups of all ages and levels of fitness.

Isometrics are not to be used before puberty or if one is a novice. It can fatigue the central nervous system. If done alone, a loss of some coordination will occur. Isometric exercises result in decreased muscular endurance and reduced speed of muscle response. Isometric exercises can raise blood pressure significantly for the duration of the exercise.
